New Toyota Highlander

Live the high life when you drive home a 2021 Toyota Highlander. This modern three-row SUV elevates performance and spaciousness for adventurers, workers, and families alike.

The 2021 Toyota Highlander is available at 10 trim levels: L, LE, Hybrid LE, XLE, Hybrid XLE, XSE, Limited, Hybrid Limited, Platinum, and Hybrid Platinum.

Performance

The 2021 Toyota Highlander combines power with smoothness for an exceptional performance. With its advanced 3.5-liter V6 engine, this model generates 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque.

When equipped with front-wheel drive, the 2021 Highlander lets you travel longer before needing to refuel, achieving 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.* The all-wheel-drive version achieves just 1 less mpg in the city and 2 less mpg on the highway.

Regardless of which drivetrain you go with, you’ll have the luxury of tweaking the Highlander’s performance. It has three distinct drive modes so you can tailor the driving dynamics to suit your preferences. Normal mode is the standard, blending performance with efficiency to get the best of both. If you want to drive as efficiently as possible, ECO Mode will help ensure you are getting the most miles out of every gallon. And finally, Sport Mode works to ensure your acceleration is as sharp as possible for those times when performance is the most important part of your drive.

AWD Highlander models are equipped with Multi-Terrain Select, which offers four drive modes designed to handle off-road and other hazardous conditions. They are MUD & SAND, ROCK & DIRT, SNOW, and NORMAL. Switch your mode depending on the road conditions to get the best performance and ride out of your Highlander.

If fuel efficiency is a top priority, there’s also a 2.5-liter hybrid engine available that boasts up to 36 mpg combined.* This engine rides on an Electronic On-Demand AWD system and is good for 186 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Hybrid models have five drive modes: Normal, ECO, Sport, EV, and Trail Modes. The first three are identical to the drive modes on the gasoline engine, while EV Mode allows electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances, and Trail Mode provides added traction when in AWD.

Capability

The Toyota Highlander is much more than a family-friendly three-row SUV. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 5,000 pounds. That means you can bring a trailer, boat, or RV along on your next adventure without having to splurge for a truck or other large vehicle. The Highlander also has Trailer Sway Control, so you can feel more secure that your cargo will stay on the road while you’re driving, even if you’re not familiar with driving a vehicle that’s towing a trailer.

Style

The 2021 Toyota Highlander isn’t one of those bland SUVs that fades into the background. Its bold styling features contoured lines and a chiseled shape to help the Highlander stand out from its competitors. Other standard exterior features include LED projector headlights and LED taillights, 18-inch wheels, and heated power side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators.

If you really want to stand out, choose the XSE, which has a more aggressive-looking mesh grille, blacked-out accents, a twin-tip exhaust, and 20-inch machined-face alloy wheels.

Interior

The 2021 Toyota Highlander has the comfort and convenience you’re looking for in a family hauler. You can seat up to eight people and provide second-row passengers with generous legroom of 41 inches. The 2021 Highlander also delivers the storage space you need for your family’s gear. Fold the second-row flat to tap into 48.4 cubic feet or fold both back rows flat to channel 84.3 cubic feet of cargo volume.

The base L model is anything but sparse. Standard features include three-zone automatic climate control, eight cup holders and four bottle holders, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an integrated backup camera. As you move up the trim levels, you open up even more premium features, both standard and optional. These include heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic moonroof with front power tilt and slide, and a 10-inch color Head-Up Display.

If you like to stand out from the crowd, consider the Highlander XSE. This sporty trim comes with two-tone leather seating in red and black, as well as red accent stitching on the instrument panel.

Technology

When it comes to the latest technology, the 2021 Toyota Highlander has you covered. The entry-level L model comes with a six-speaker sound system with an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system. That system includes Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, Bluetooth® wireless technology, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and SiriusXM® satellite radio with a three-month trial subscription. On higher trim levels, you can opt for the Premium Audio system, which includes Dynamic Navigation with a three-year trial; or a system that includes 18 JBL speakers, including a subwoofer and amplifier. Whether your family likes to listen to audiobooks or the latest pop hits while on a road trip, the available Toyota sound systems will ensure that everyone can listen with no issues such as sound distortion or crackling.

Safety

Safety is a standard part of every 2021 Highlander thanks to Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5+, the next-gen active safety system. The 2021 Toyota Highlander is equipped with advanced technology, such as Pre-Collision System with Low-Light Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Road Sign Assist, at no additional cost. For additional confidence, the 2021 Highlander can include more additional safety features, including Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking.
