2021 Toyota Highlander Trim Lineup

The 2021 Toyota Highlander is the king of the midsize SUV segment. With three rows of seating, an available hybrid powertrain, and lots of practical features, it’s not hard to see its family-friendly appeal. The Highlander is offered at 10 trim levels, giving you plenty of options when searching for the best combination of price and features.

Highlander L

The entry-level 2021 Toyota Highlander L does a great job of giving you all of the features that matter right out of the gate. Without costing you any extra, every Highlander comes with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5+, an industry-leading suite of active safety and driver-assistive features that can help you avoid collisions with vehicles and pedestrians, among other things.

The Highlander L also has three-zone automatic climate control, five total USB ports, visibility-enhancing LED headlights, and compatibility for Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and the Amazon Alexa smart assistant. It gets a user-friendly 8-inch touch screen, comfortable seats, and lots of storage. Cargo space is 16 cubic feet behind the rear seats, 48 cubic feet behind the second row, and over 84 cubic feet behind the first row.

Every Highlander (outside the Hybrid) is also powered by a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. It’s a potent engine that provides a nice combination of fuel economy and capability, including a tow rating of 5,000 pounds and up to 29 mpg on the highway.*

Highlander LE

One of the most popular Highlander models, the LE delivers awesome bang for your buck. It takes all of the features from the L and adds features that parents are sure to love, such as a height-adjustable power liftgate with jam protection and a six-speaker sound system. The LE also gets blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert as well as heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal and blind spot indicators, ensuring you still get the best visibility even during those frosty Indiana winters. For an extra touch of luxury, it wraps the shift knob and steering wheel in a nice-feeling leather.

Highlander Hybrid (LE, XLE, Limited, Platinum)

Families looking for an efficient SUV have found it: the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Available at the LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum trim levels, the Highlander Hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter engine with two electric motors to produce 243 horsepower while returning a staggering 36 combined mpg.* That makes the Platinum Hybrid the most efficient three-row SUV you can buy, and it’s not even close (the second-most efficient three-row SUV on the market only gets 27 mpg!).

Like the other Highlander models, the Highlander Hybrid comes with standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive. In other words, if you need that extra traction on low-grip roads, you can have it, regardless of electrification. The Highlander Hybrid is offered at a variety of trim levels so make sure to check out the other trims on this page for a glimpse at the features you can have along with its incredible efficiency.

Highlander XLE

The Toyota Highlander XLE is a top choice for families interested in a more premium-feeling SUV that nonetheless doesn’t break the bank. It has SofTex®-trimmed front- and second-row seats with heated front seats, plus power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver. It also features an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a built-in HomeLink® universal receiver and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, making it easy to keep your devices charged without cluttering the cabin with cables. To enhance the sense of interior space or to simply make road trips more fun, it also features a power tilt/slide moonroof with a sunshade.

Highlander XSE

The Highlander XSE brings on the style. With 20-inch machined-face alloy wheels and twin-tip exhaust system, it stands out among the other SUVs. It also has a more aggressive front mesh grille and sportier bumpers, as well as a spoiler and side rocker panels with tasteful chrome trim. Black roof rails complete the look. Inside, available leather-trimmed seats also enhance comfort. The XSE’s unique look is perfect for those parents who are buying an SUV for the utility but who truly long for a more exciting vehicle.

Highlander Limited

With the Limited trim, the Toyota Highlander trim creeps into luxury territory. It gets an upgraded infotainment system with built-in navigation and a premium, 11-speaker audio system by JBL®. Leather-trimmed front- and second-row seats are standard equipment, and at the front they’re heated and ventilated too. For an even sharper look, the Highlander Limited boasts high-output LED fog lights, LED-strip daytime running lights and 20-inch chrome wheels. It also has a hands-free power tailgate, making it more convenient to load groceries when your hands are full. Side mirror puddle lights are a nice touch that will make you feel more welcome whenever you approach the vehicle.

Highlander Platinum

The top-of-the-line Highlander Platinum lives up to its name with all of the best features that Toyota has to offer. It comes with a 12.3-inch touch-screen display, a beautiful panoramic moonroof with sunshade, a digital rearview mirror, and a 10-inch color head-up display. That’s on top of heated second-row captain’s chairs, a bird’s eye view camera with dynamic gridlines, and a variety of other high-tech features and premium amenities.
